TastEPlasma
Greetings,

So, I have always been pretty sure of myself in that I was under the impression that after the 3D client was released, they were no longer providing updates to the 2D client, or more specifically the on-screen sprites/animation portions of the 2D client.

However, I find myself thoroughly confused, because I was using AXIS to see what representation they did give the 2D of their 3D counter-parts (and moaning at the kabillion colored horses and red men), and I noticed something odd.

Quite some time ago in the past (several years), I played on a shard which had the Swamp Dragon as a ridable mount, in the 2D client. It was properly represented (aka not a palette-swapped horse), had animation, and everything.

So now, I am wondering why I am missing out on so much content. I downloaded the latest free client I could find (v4.0.1.1c), since the box I purchased back in the day was T2A and I didnt want to wait forever for it to update. Plus I have heard that if you let the client patch to the fullest, it becomes difficult or impossible to connect to a free sever.

So, does anybody know how to get the content I am apparently missing?

Thanks,
TastEPlasma

EDIT: Err, the latest client I could find that wasn't Kingdom Reborn

Oh boy you are in for a treat tongue.gif

All of the 3D animations have 2D variants except the warhorses and firesteed. And the rest is all normal 2D content. If you've been missing out on all that you are running behind, here is how you get it:

1. Go to http://www.uo.com/uoml/downloads.shtml and download the game.
2. Install it, you don't need to patch or anything.
3. Enable the feature flags in your sphere.ini.
4. Set the auto resdisp to 5.
5. Login with a new account, add everything from the scriptpack and have fun wink.gif

How did I miss this? Oh, so MANY more possibilities are open now! None of the expansion set monsters were working, I get to have all those new spawns with which to populate my world! Many of which my good MMO-buddies from back in the day have never seen before! Exclamation point!!!

EDIT: Oh, and on a slightly less happiness-and-jubilation note, I was surprised to learn that the "Sea Monster", aka the giant slime, got taken out of the game. Anyone know the official explanation, or was none given?
EDIT2: I am stunned by the possibilities. Although some of the monsters kinda suck (the gargoyles in particular come to mind), most of them are really cool and different enough to be striking. The crystal elemental in particular is very cool, and I have never seen Paroxymus before. Just wow. Thanks again Wiccianian. :-)

If Stygian Abyss ever comes out we'll have playable Gargoyles like the Elves and Humans with equipment and all and we can ditch the old gargoyle art forever.

Worth noting I think the 3d gargoyles are nicer in design they are just way too low poly like most of the others... if only they'd made higher poly versions to take shots of for 2d... but then they were hoping to phase out the 2d client for the old 3d one. Just like the hoped to phase out 2d for KR. When will they learn you can't discontinue the 2d client and keep the player base?

Also if you are willing to .mul edit you can bring over the old giant slime/sea monster.

The sea monster, old gargoyles and daemons are all still present in the files. I'm still using them.

You don't need to patch anything for that. Just change them back to their old version in the bodyconv.def. wink.gif

More info on that here : http://www.sphereserver.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=45415

They never given a reason why it was taken out, well maybe 9 years ago or something, but good luck finding that tongue.gif
